I heard last night that the recent increase in drig trafficking and
prostitution (especially during the daytime) near Bloomington Avenue and
Lake Street is a result of losing two beat officers for that location who
will not be replaced. Although you might be flagged down in your car by
dealers at any time of the day, I hear these beat cops will not be replaced
because the intersection has not received enough 911 calls.

Earlier this week I heard that the entire Community Crime Prevention/SAFE
program is in jeopardy as well. I knew the program lost some middle
management positions, and I knew that the block club grant program would not
be funded this year, but now I hear that CCP/SAFE itself was going away.

Are these just paranoid rumors, or is the Phillips Containment Zone open for
business again?
