As I understand it, the recent increase in drug
& sex trade at Bloomington & Lake is due to:
 1) Increase in all crime nationwide since 9/11
 2) Increase in crime due to unseasonably warm temperatures
 3) Increase in crime due to Code 4 policies that have pushed
crime from adjacent neighborhoods to B/L intersection.

I have spoken with business owners at the intersection as well
as members of the third precinct and I have been reassured that
two beat cops WILL be added this spring to the Bloomington &
Lake intersection, as soon as temperatures warm up (which
appears sooner and sooner every day).

I will continue to look for resources so that "beat cops" are more
plentiful in the City of Lakes.

I have watched drug selling at West Broadway and Irving Av. N. blossom
into teams of drug sellers on all corners, and up and around the side
streets. Selling and buying is now totally open. The huge numbers of hard
working patrol officers is not dampening activity there, hence it is not in
itself a solution. Sellers/buyers were in the Parking lot of the MPS West
Broadway school at Girard and business was brisk. Groups were eager to
exchange drugs for money at the bus stops and right in the middle of the
street. It is a bull market but highly unfair to many residents. When we make
all neighborhoods livable, we won't need to "disperse poverty". Keith
