List Members, For those of you who use the very small typeface when posting, please don't. I do not wear glasses - yet, and I don't want to get close to the screen to read your comments.
I understand that you want to get all your thoughts out, but understand that if you have something you want to say, we will read as much as you write. I hope I can speak for the masses when I say that we on this forum value your insights and opinions. We just do not want to get a headache trying to read them. If the message only appeared tiny on my PC, let me apologize right now. Now, in regard to the content of the Ms. Wilson's post: If it does not really matter if we have folks with like minded views representing us, why do we have the DFLers, Green, Republican, etc.....? Because as much as folks say it shouldn't, it does. I agree with Matthea and Andrea. They are not saying that other folks can't represent us well, or share like values and politics, but sometimes having a few more folks who may have walked a mile or two in our same style shoes may have an extra edge. And you cannot tell me that folks do not like to have an edge. Like Ms. Wilson implied, this is the real world. Everybody and every group wants one. Homeowners, property owners/land-lords, renters, etc. Read Robert Schmidt's post about the neighborhood organization formation. That's my two cents for now. I am sure I will be hearing from the folks who don't think like me. In an ideal world we would be able to choose people who we feel represent us completely, but as we all know, this world is nothing close to ideal. We need to choose those who we believe will "best" represent our interests and ideals. I feel sympathy for those who believe they are not represented well, but I also think one should not discriminate on the outward basis of appearance. We all need to be reminded morphological characteristics can be changed and are changed over the course of evolution. As for background and life experience, I think there is too much favor given to the experiences of those with similar backgrouns "knowing" how to represent you. I am a 21 year old single mother of one, going to the U of M, and working close to full time. I do not believe there are a lot of other 21 year old single mothers that, having the same bakground and experience as I, also have the same values or want the same person representing us. I also do not think i want to be represented by someone with a similar background. What I am getting at is the fact that just because someone comes from a similar background does not guarentee they are going to represent me well or even know how I want to be represented, the outward appearance of someone or the level of similar background do not determine how well someone is going to represent me.

Nikki Wilson

Chanhassen

MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: Click Here

_______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
