This was not quite the year to promote x-c skiing in Mpls. - there was
hardly enough snow to even get out the boots. Never-the-less, I think there
are issues on promoting Wirth that we should be addressing for 2002/2003.
However, we do groom those trails - but our promotion of the x-c
ski program is very minimal. And we still need extensive work on the Chalet
to make it hospitable and more usable by the public. It is truly a gorgeous
place and being out in those woods is a treat within our city - no doubt!

This road biking things to me is like convention farming vs organic farming
- my biggest concern being the erosion issue. What we are seeing along the
river is devastating and so something definitely needs to be done. I am
not convinced that every single sport can be in the city park system. 6500
acres may seem like a lot until it has gone away through erosion, buffers,
overuse, etc., etc., etc. Since I am not a fan of road biking I will have
to defer to others on the off road biking
issue...

Thanks for the input RT,
Annie Young
Citywide Park Commissioner
