Before cable modems, people had only one choice for at-home broadband access. What might the next step be as we push Minneapolis as an information age city? My guess is wireless Internet access.
One trend that is emerging are shared wireless networks using Wi-Fi (the 802.11b standard <http://80211b.weblogger.com>). I have a wireless network at home and the reach doesn't quite get me to Dunn Bros. :-( Depending upon the approach, this may be a great way to bridge the digital divide in our community or something that would boosts the area as a place for at-home workers who can roam from coffee shop to coffee shop. There are a number of cities with citizen efforts designed to allow wireless roaming around town: http://www.seattlewireless.net http://www.seattlewireless.net/index.cgi/SimilarProjectLinks If you currently use wireless networking, live near Uptown, and have an interest in exploring this issue, join the Wireless Uptown e-mail list: [EMAIL PROTECTED] If there is significant interest, particularly from the tech heads in the area, I'll help organize a meeting in the coming months.
