Not being an employee of City Pages, I can't speak to the justice or lack thereof in Meleah no longer working there. However, I do know the editors of City Pages, and I think it is incredibly unfair to suggest they fired someone because they somehow wanted to protect the people behind Heritage Park. What evidence is there of that? City Pages has done more digging into that place - before Meleah, by the way - than any other publication in town. Why on earth would they have let Meleah's lengthy story on Heritage Park run in the first place? Tim, I'm sorry, but I think this is a smear. You are impugning people's professional integrity without a shred of evidence and based strictly upon your speculation. You would be outraged if someone suggested the same of you. At our best, journalists rely on evidence and facts when we make our accusations. This feels like an all-too-glib character assassination. I agree that Meleah was quite knowledgeable about Heritage Park and deeply committed to being a watchdog on the project. And you're right; that is a loss. But as any of us who have been employees or employers know, there are a hundred reasons some leaves or is let go. You'll have to provide something substantial to establish a malicious conspiracy on the part of people who I believe are committed to public-affairs reporting.
