The question I can't get past is, why does the parkboard loose so much money running these concessions, which are staffed by high school students?

They have a built in constituency for several months per year and no overhead to speak of -- they're not paying property taxes or for building improvements.

It seems like some local entrepreneurs dream. Why do we have to turn it over to a corporation. Did they even solicit proposals from local businesses? (Despite the local address, DQ is not a local biz, but a national chain.)

Or does the parkboard see it as more than a pay for itself proposition? Are they hoping to turn it into a revenue stream?

Why not something that would serve a broader constituency. Quality coffee, tables and chairs, ice cream, maybe even healthy sandwiches!

I hate to see corporate presence in the parks that I and everyone else already pay taxes to maintain. The parks are a community treasure. Lets not make them a corporate playground.
