There was a brief "destroy before reading" hypothetical after the City
|Attorney gave stern warning about document retention and such like, but
an understanding soon emerged in favor of pragmatism. I do feel a bit
queasy putting material on mpls-issues, but the reality is that
backgrounding public data availability is hardly controversial and I
don't mind if the humorless bean-counters peruse my grammar and
spelling. To me this is a "teachable moment" where I can give folks who
aren't that familiar with the current techospeak something of a cook's
tour of the vocabulary.

Interested parties should come to the Commission's meetings on the next
three Mondays, all at 6:00 pm, all at Rm. 220 City Hall. We are on a
voyage of discovery here and an appropriate involvement of the public
will emerge if people have routine access to the language we
Commissioners ourselves are learning to use. The same is true of the
City Council and the city's staff and I imagine the mayor and his crew -
new tools, new vocabulary, new ways of thinking about balancing the many
community interests list member Bert Black has referenced.

Fred Markus, Horn Terrace, Ward Ten, Redistricting Commissioner
