MINNEAPOLIS RANKED FIFTH CLEANEST CITY IN THE WORLD

Minneapolis (March 12, 2002) According to the 2001 Mercer Survey of more
than 200 of the world's major cities, Minneapolis tied with Ottawa, Canada
for the fifth cleanest city in the world. William Mercer, an international
human resources consulting firm, released its annual quality-of-life survey
earlier this month. Air pollution, sewage treatment and waste disposal were
some of the indicators used to determine this ranking. Minneapolis has 1080
miles of streets, 455 miles of alleys and 44 miles of biking, skating and
walking trails. The City's Solid Waste Division services 107, 290 dwellings,
handling 113,000 tons of household garbage and an additional 49,000 tons of
recycled materials and yard trimmings annually.

The Mercer survey is a comprehensive evaluation of the differences in the
quality of living in any two cities, based on detailed assessments and
evaluation of 39 key quality of life indicators. The information is used by
governments and major companies world-wide to determine appropriate
allowances that reflect differences in the quality of life for personnel
transferred abroad. Overall, Minneapolis placed 56th as the most livable
city of 215 cities surveyed, up two places from last year.
