While I doubt the House Republican bill will become law, requiring the
host city - not county - to hold a referendum seems like a way to kill
Minneapolis's chances of getting the stadium.

Why? It cuts Hennepin County out of the equation, removing the county's
political cover to get a west-of-the-border stadium. Forcing a vote back
inside Minneapolis's borders also protects Ron Abrams' Minnetonka
constituents from taxation, and helps GOP US Senate candidate Norm
Coleman's pro-stadium St. Paul base, since that city is going it alone.

On a separate subject: I was kidding about the home plastics smelter.
Not being able to tell is one reason I'm no longer on radio. Anyway,
people, reduce, reuse, recycle - in that order.

Final note: I echo Cara Letofsky's wise advice - enjoying
Minneapolis-Issues means liberal use of the delete key. Members often
have a "completist" attitude about reading posts that becomes an
unnecessary burden. There's a lot of wheat here, but toss that chaff
just as quickly as you can without a second thought.
