I want to express my appreciation for the effort and time the 3rd Precinct officers have put into building relationships and enhancing community policing efforts in our area. I do believe that the shooting is terribly tragic, both for the family and I'm sure for the Officers involved, but I'm not about to jump to conclusions stated below. I haven't talked personally to the Police involved, I haven't spoken to Inspector Lubinski, I don't have the whole story and I don't know what happened. All I know, is that in our Block Network reality, the Police have been helpful, respectful, and determined to enhance safety in our area from drug dealing and prostitution and gun play which makes it non-livable for our families, our children, and our elders...and I appreciate their efforts and involvement and partnership. If an inappropriate action occurred, I have no doubt that Inspector Lubinski will address it. She is fair, level-headed, and very, very aware of the needs and the demands in the 3rd Precinct. I believe and have seen her be dedicated to improving race relations and understanding. She and her team, are not "the enemy".....they are here to help and it's up to us to work this through together. Yes, the man had a big knife. Yes, he was mental ill. But I have yet to hear that he attacked an officer. All of the accounts that I have heard have said that he hit a police car. No, I would not have tried to take the large knife from this man. But I would have tried to call an expert to talk to him. I understand that our police force is not properly trained to handle situations such as this. I do think that some of them should be extensively trained in this field of community service as peace officers. Still, maybe the problem is that our police department does not receive adequate firearms training. I cannot understand why they must always fire upon our fellow citizens so many times in order to subdue them. It is clear to me that the message is that they will not simply disarm a person in this type of situation, they will kill. _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
