During our last heavyish snowfall (last Saturday morning), I enjoyed some
off-trail/on-street urban x-country skiing, from Nicollet Island across
downtown to Elliot Park.

I wait for days (like today) with snow heavy or sudden enough that many
sidewalks and even streets won't be cleared for hours.

But a few truly intrepid urban skiers attempt journeys through the city on
average days, tracing routes on boulevards, parkways, anywhere with a little
bit of snow.

X-city skiing is probably the mildest of xtreme sports, and if it was just a
tad easier it could gain adherents among the many people with dormant x-c
skis. Could we set up some x-city ski routes, maybe mostly on parkland but
with a few links or strips left strategically unplowed?
