The following is an announcement for a class at the U.
It might be valuable for schoolboard members or
MPS administrators, or as its suggests just plain

Summer Session 2002

PA 5490 Topics in Social Policy:
Increasing School/Family/Community
Collaboration

8:00am - 4:30pm
July 22 - July 26, 2002

Instructor: Joseph H. Nathan
Class # 82140, 3 Cr

What are the most effective ways to increase collaboration among
schools and families, and between schools and community
groups? This class, team taught with staff from several community
based groups and Joe Nathan, will review research and discuss
lessons learned from a vast array of collaborative efforts, both
successful and unsuccessful. Participants will be asked to
develop a project that promotes collaboration among schools,
families, and community members. The project should have some
clear benefits for young people.

Last summer this class attracted a fascinating array of people -
educators, parents and community advocates. Space is limited.
Please register soon. For information contact Joe Nathan or Deb
Hare at the Center for School Change in the Humphrey Institute at
