I didn't see the committee coverage. It's a good idea to have a civilian review board. However, it's not very effective if it doesn't have the power to subpeona.
This is something that I've heard Green Party members support. I'd hope that the Green delegation on the Council will back up Zerby in this effort. It strikes me as odd that in the wake of the recent killing Council member Goodman would want to come out opposed to improving civilian oversight of the police department. Does this ultimately boil down to a fiscal argument? Or is it that having effective civilian review somehow lessens the police department's ability to deter crime?
