That's easy: because such opinions exist.
Newspaper editors have an obligation to publish
letters which extol opinions they find
disagreeable, even reprehensible, so long as they
are written in a manner that conforms to content
guidelines And I'm glad for it. It's much better
we know what the people we disagree with are
thinking rather than know nothing at all. You may
think the opinion misguided and irresponsible,
however, the decision to publish it is a
responsible choice.
