When I read Tim Connolly's "translation" of a letter to the editor of the St
Paul paper I was stunned initially but quickly appreciated the brave
confrontation he made to the writer's bigotry. Political correctness can also
have the effect of providing bigots protective cover and can anaesthetize
those of us who don't face the consequences of their bigotry. I also commend
the list manger for not censoring this debate.

I realize that I am not directly effected by the writer's prejudice since I
am a white heterosexual middle income female (he neglected to mention
bitches, whores and feminazis as a reason for our city's decline). I hope
that those who are more vulnerable to being hurt will see Connolly's parody
in this light.
