...You passed Politics 101 with flying colors! The stadium bill was going
to pass with or without your support last night and you wisely voted with
the majority to improve our bargaining position down the road, the Twins
stadium will in all likelihood be in Minneapolis. These folks took a tough
vote and I think they deserve credit for it. To those reps who voted
against the bill, kindly abstain from future ideas about the sighting
proposals forthcoming. Whether we like it or not a stadium will likely be
built, we need to put our energies behind getting the best deal for
Minneapolis. That includes a light rail station at or near the ballpark, a
business contribution to the city (property tax or Downtown Council
commitment), Convention Center contribution (they benefit directly from this
being built), user fees, game day food and liquor taxes in a targeted area
near the stadium...add to this list.

Folks, I detest Bud Selig as much as anyone but the funding mechanism that
has been proposed for this stadium will very likely be implemented. We need
to start planning for this reality and quit hand wringing about the evils of
corporate baseball and get the best deal we can. We need to identify the
beneficiaries of this stadium and levy the appropriate taxes to make this
happen in Minneapolis, we need all the ideas we can get.
