A great icon of progressive politics and the DFL - and the first African American elected to office in Minneapolis - died yesterday. Sorry, confirmation came quite late, so I don't have many details. I have a personal connection to Nellie, having worked with her on her oral history a couple of years ago, and my first thoughts are in the Strib's obit. She was 96, and still her passing took my breath away.
