A correction to my lengthy redistricting post:

The Jordan neighborhood was moved out of Joe Biernat's Ward 3, not Barb
Johnson's Ward 4. My apologies. I guess what was thinking was that if
Jordan ended up in Ward 4 instead of Natalie Johnson Lee's Ward 5, you'd
have two wards with 60-plus percent minorities, instead of one with 83
percent and one with 49 percent. I submit that's better minority
opportunity, though I don't know how other lines would be affected.

Also, I was slightly off on minority percentages in the 8th. That ward
went from 62 percent (today) to 51 percent (tentative plan) to 56
percent (final plan). Rick Stafford did still fight to boost the
percentage from the tentative plan, but it is still a reduction in
minority voting strength in that ward.

Also, an omission: Karen Collier as well as Fred Markus and Rick
Stafford were always available via email to answer questions and provide
perspective. It is nice that we had one-third of the Redistricting
Commission participating on the list - although I hope it's more next
time!
