I know that a lot of people think that Olson should go. My feeling is that
there needs to be unquestionable accountability. The council and RT will be
held accountable for their actions from this point on. The responsibility is
theirs now as to who is the lead person of our police department. What ever
happens, the new leader of this department will be known as their person and
not a person in a position appointed by past leadership. Actions (good and
bad) of the police department will reflect on their leadership capabilities.
So from here on out, if Olson stays, he is their police department leader. If
he leaves his replacement will be their police department leader. We as a
community are really in a win-win situation. What ever happens in this
situation, we can now hold our leaders responsible for the departments
operation. The perception of the Police Chief being chosen by past leaders
and thus they have to live with it, will be gone. When the smoke clears our
city leaders will be responsible for whomever is the Police chief. No
excuses, just accountability.
