Joe Biernat has been indicted by a Federal grand jury on charges of public corruption, 
WCCO-TV
reported today.

Biernat, who represents the 3rd Ward, covering parts of North and NE Mpls., was named 
in an
indictment handed down Wednesday, April 17th.

He is accused of violating the Federal Hobbes Act, which deals with corruption of 
public officials.
Biernat, a 3-term DFL'er, is accused of conspiring to extort and receive items of 
value,
specifically plumbing work at his home and other properties.

Biernat is one of 3 people named in the indictment. The other two work in the plumbing 
business.
There was no mention of any other public officials indicted.

Biernat is scheduled to appear in a Federal courtroom on Friday, April 19th.
