When I asked, "What do Joe's supporters have to say now?" I didn't mean to infer that his supporters bear any responsibility for his actions. Nor did I intend to infer that he is guilty of any charges brought against him. His guilt or innocence is not for me to decide and remains to be proven. In asking the question, I was hoping to hear what Joe's supporters (or opponents) think of recent developments. I also didn't expect to have to defend myself for asking. Admittedly, I could have phrased it differently -- but this is a forum for discussing Minneapolis issues, so I didn't think it would be out of line to ask to hear from Joe's supporters.
Contrary to what some seem to have read into my last post, I believe that one is innocent until proven guilty and am fully aware that indictment does not equal conviction. I'm surprised and more than a little disappointed that some list members have accused me of jumping to negative conclusions about Mr. Biernat, when that's exactly what they seem to have done with regard to me. A few recent posts have implied that Biernat is corrupt or otherwise depicted him in a negative light. I hope we can all remember that no matter what our opinions of Joe Biernat, he hasn't been convicted of any wrongdoing and may ultimately be found innocent. Whatever the outcome, let's hope this comes to a speedy conclusion. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem likely. According to Biernat's attorney, the "case will be tried before U.S. District Judge Ann Montgomery in Minneapolis and probably will not begin before next fall" (story at: http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/local/3093373.htm).
