I don't know if this has been adressed in this forum but the exclusion of the green party from the SLC/ U of M debate is troubling. It means that hundreds/ thousands of people can become civic minded, pound the pavement, get involved and better yet get others involved, achieve the 5 percent needed to legally become a major party and it means nothing. What appears to be the real criteria to debate are money and celebrity. And from what I know the republicans were all for the greens to debate, so are the democrats worried? If this is the case, lose the moniker and call yourselves the aristocratic/fear party. We could be seen as competition, but we should also be seen as allies and also a healthy infusion to the gene pool. I'd really rather not hear the socialist plot, the progressives of this country have pushed for reform we all enjoy to this day, I don't want to hear the "in these times" pooh. In what times are we in, no one has attacked Mpls, and I doubt we are even on the top twenty list, so relax. If the dfl continues to let fear be their "north star" what will it morph into in 50 years. If the greens have no chance to win what is the harm of having a good sit down conversation early in the process. Ask me what the dfl stands for, and I could say the little guy, but what does that mean anymore? Ask me what the greens stand for and I'll give you the ten key principles for starters. The four pillars of grassroots democracy, social and economic justice, nonviolence, and ecology. It's time for these ideas to be talked about. It's time to give something back.
Heaven lasts long, the Earth abides. What is the secret of their durability? Is it not because they do not live for themselves that they can live so long? Therefore, the Sage wants to remain behind, but finds himself at the head of others; reckons himself out, but finds himself safe and secure. Is it not because he is selfless that the self is realized. - Lao Tzu Robert Yorga St. Anthony West ward 3 _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
