using Multiple Intelligences have a significant effect.
Like Pamela Taylor, I am a very big advocate of using Multiple Intelligences teaching methods as a way to help more kids succeed. I believe that employing MI teaching techniques will help many kids who have difficulty succeeding through the traditional linguistic and mathematical intelligences alone. Unfortunately, because it is still so new, there aren't that many schools yet using it, so there isn't a lot of research yet on academic results. I can cite several articles about individual MI schools with very improved test scores on standardized tests, but I don't think that is going to be enough to convince any skeptics out there.
I am hearing fabulous things about a couple MI schools we have in the area - Expo in Saint Paul, and Tri District in Maplewood - from parents who have their kids there. In fact, I know a teacher who moved her family so her kids could attend Tri District, and said it was the best thing they ever did for their son.
With the current political climate to hold schools accountable with test scores and punish them financially if they don't measure up, I'm afraid it's going to slow the progress on finding new methods that reach more kids. It's not a climate that encourages schools to try new techniques.
Even so, and perhaps wishful thinking, it would be nice to see a Multiple Intelligence school in Minneapolis - a magnet or a charter school perhaps? Maybe a teaching university could take this on and create a university lab school...

I can create my own list of factors reducing the dropout rate and post it, but Multiple Intelligence wouldn't be one of them. Which list would be more valid?
