Coffee @ Six AM, After the shooting at 24xx Bloomington Ave. S, a week and a half ago, the children came to the East Phillips meeting and pleaded with us adults to�. �Please do something�. They told us - when the shooting started, they jumped into a dumpster in the alley and actually heard bullets hitting nearby. They are scared � we all are, - but we are trying to answer their call for help. For some reason drug dealing around all these children and struggling families has suddenly gone crazy. Bloomington and 25th is not a big commercial street. This is a small street in a heavily residential area with tons of children. It may be that we cannot stop this, but it must be moved out of the area were there are many, many children. A group of neighbors are meeting at 6:10 AM, every morning, at E. 25th St. and Bloomington Ave. � across from the SA and across from the Commodore Bar. We have a card table, a coffee pot, note pads, cameras, and cell phones and we�re making a difference. As we get more people, we walk � in force � through the neighborhood, and up and down Bloomington reporting on deals, taking license plates, and noting which houses are crack houses. It is an education to see what we are asking parents and their children and others in these areas to deal with. We have encouraged and empowered intimidated residents. Many people have nearly wept because someone was finally taking direct action on their behalf. We have enlisted the help of the fire fighters at the 27th and Bloomington Station. We have communicated the fears of the children to the dealers. We are making a difference, but our numbers are few. We need your help. Our commitment is to meet every morning and have enough people to meet randomly, at the same corner, to give the children courage when they catch the bus and when they return from school.
Helping is simple! You don�t need to call anyone, just show up at about 6:10am any morning. We are asking anyone, everyone from any neighborhood to join us to help protect these children here in Phillips.See you at 6:00 am on the Avenue, Bloom and 25th!
