What legal precedents could allow a web site or publication to publish local sex, drug, prostitution offenders' names? They are currently doing this for sex offenders. Could those laws cover other areas like drugs and prostitution too?
Would the city of Minneapolis work with another organization to publish the names, crime, and mug shots of those offenders? I believe the First Amendment allows you to report that John Smith was arrested on so so date, for doing so and so. However, I've heard offlist that other organizations were threatened with legal actions for publishing names of certain offenders. It might be a deterrent if such a website or publication existed to prevent others from coming to our neighborhoods to buy and sell drugs, prostituation, etc. Comments? Thomas T. Thai S.
