I was already involved, but got into the NRP thing to get some things I wanted--attention to Hosmer, a sensible solution to having 83 vacant/boarded houses and a lot of empty lots, a better park, traffic calming, more trees > > >Art Erickson, Ralph Bruins and Wizard Marks were major boosters of the >Sabri AmericInn Motel scheme -- which is what got Sabri indicted for >bribery. > This is a bold-faced lie. I did not then and do not now give a rat's patootie about a hotel. What I did care about was that IF there was going to be a hotel, I wanted it to have some ameties for the neighborhood. I proposed a residence hotel with some rooms for drive in trade, a coffee shop and a conference room (for clan gatherings, wedding receptions, etc). At two memorable meetings, one at Urban Ventures, the immediate neighbors to the property were solidly against a hotel, Sabri and others for a hotel. CM Herron nixed a hotel at the meetings. When I asked him why, he said he didn't think that space was the place for a hotel, that it should be across the freeway at Stevens and Lake. I'll repeat this again, since having said it in the past didn't get through to the responders to this thread, I did not, I do not care one way or the other about a hotel on either side of the freeway.
