Please join your friends and neighbors this coming Saturday, May 18th, for the First Annual South Lyndale Avenue Spring CleanUp.  The event is sponsored by the Lyndale Avenue South Renewal- Creek to Crosstown (LASR-CC), a collaborative group consisting of residents and businesses from Tangletown, Lynnhurst, Kenny and Windom.  LASR-CC has been meeting for nearly a year and will soon complete activities undertaken in Phase I which have lead to the creation of a vision for the future redevelopment that will take place along Lyndale Avenue/Highway 121 Corridor that is shared by all 4 neighborhoods.

As the name LASR-CC implies, we will be cleaning up Lyndale Avenue South from the Minnehaha Creek to the Highway 62 Crosstown (52nd Street to 62nd Street and the Highway 121 spur).

The schedule of events:

Sign-in and Job Assignment:
8:45 - 9:00 am- Coldwell Banker Burnet Realty office, 5516 Lyndale Avenue South, on the south side of the building.  There will be registration tables under the carport on the south side of the building.  There will be off street parking available in the Coldwell Banker Burnet realty parking lot.  Look for the A-frame signs along Lyndale Avenue directing you to the event coordination site.  We will have fresh coffee, hot tea, cold fruit juice, donuts and bagels to get you started in the morning and there are public restrooms available in the Coldwell Banker Burnet realty building.

9:00 to NOON:
Volunteer participants will be assigned to various groups (based on your level of interest and participation) and dispatched to a number of locations along Lyndale Avenue where the Spring CleanUp steering committee has identified specific projects that we would like to complete.

Examples of potential projects include:
-Sweeping the sand from the sidewalks that has accumulated over the past several winters
-Removing weeds and overgrowth that has been allowed to make a home at inappropriate places along Lyndale Avenue
-Planting of flowers and landscape clean-up at the Washburn Library
-Clearing overgrowth along the Highway 121 spur and cleaning up trash
-Removing the motels (just kidding, but hoping)
-Cleaning up the eyesore that exists at the entrance/exit to Crosstown 62/35W at Lyndale Avenue
-Cleaning up the Minnehaha Creek gorge directly adjacent to the Lyndale Avenue bridge over the creek

Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately for the weather, to bring gloves and any 'tools of salvation' that you would like to use or share with others (like shovels, ice scrapers, rakes, sidewalk edgers, pruning shears, bow saws, chain saws, gas powered leaf blowers, wheel barrows).  City crews will be following up on Saturday afternoon and on Monday to sweep the streets and to truck away the solid waste, bagged trash and trimmed brush that we pile up on Saturday morning.  Plastic bags will be provided by the city.

Come for an hour - Come for the entire morning.  If you can't make it exactly at 9:00 am, stop by the Coldwell Banker Burnet realty office between 9:00 and 11:00 am to receive an assignment.

LASR-CC would like to thank the following area businesses for their support of this CleanUp effort: Coldwell Banker Burnet realty, Kowalski's, Borton Volvo, Starbuck's Coffee, Walgreen's Drug and Diamond Lake Rental.

By working together, we can make South Lyndale Avenue a city-wide model for what can happen when various neighborhoods join together collaboratively to work in a spirit of cooperation on projects that benefit the entire community.
