Old Highland is the neighborhood directly SOUTH of
Hawthorne, going from Broadway to Plymouth, and Bryant to
Girard. It is technically a subset of Near North, but it is its own
501(c)3. It is not counted as one of the city's 81
neighborhoods. (BTW: I served 2 terms as its president back in
the 70s or 80s.) Old Highland has Queen Anne Victorian
houses on the National Register of Historic Places, and even
some of our carriage barns are historically significant.

Old Highland was established as a neighborhood association in
the 70s. One of our residents is Charlie Nelson, the state
Historical Society's architectural historian. Charlie is a treasure
trove of knowledge and was instrumental in the St. Peter
cleanup to help the city restore, not demolish, its historic
structures.

Old Highland also was the first neighborhood to institute clean
sweeps. We've had more than 20 so far. Our traditional date is
the weekend before the Home Tour, so our area looks good for
the Home Tourists. This was the first time in many years that we
had no home on the tour, but our traditional volunteers helped at
two great houses barely outside our borders.
