To the Minneapolis Issues Forum,
Greetings. This is in regard to the Hiawatha Public Art Program. I am in the
process of creating artwork for the Government Station and would like your
input as the ideas are being developed. The light rail station site is
between Minneapolis City Hall and The Hennepin County Government Center on
5th Street. It is currently being designed and will be installed in 2003.
The approach I'm taking is to focus on the primary purpose of the place and
that is the interaction of people with the local government. The themes of
democracy and participation are the main considerations at this point.
The intention of the work will be to integrate appropriately with the
environment and hopefully provide for a meaningful experience. Also to
include a range of perspectives, especially from community members who will
use the station.
Please respond to the following:
What does Democracy mean to you?
What helps you participate in government?
What stops you from participating in government?
Other comments:
All responses will be posted on a web site (url address to come) that
documents the process and designs. For more information please visit the
Hiawatha Line web site:

Thank you.
