List, IMHO I believe that on this issue the city council is weak. To allow Biernat to chair the committee looking into discontinue licensing is preposterous. There is more than a hint of impropriety on Biernat's side, so that alone is reason enough to disallow that. Simply disapproving of it doesn't cut the mustard. And, no one is saying that they have to believe he is guilty, but they need to not allow the possible stink that he is to invade the senses of city business.
It's behavior like this that really make citizen's angry because we hear all the rhetoric from politicians when they want your vote and/or support for something, then they waffle when it comes to taking action on ethical matters dealing with themselves. Not now, nor have I ever, stood in awe of any politician. They are simply flesh and blood like the rest of us. Yes, they are allowed to make mistakes, too. But they are also the ones who chose the profession of a public servant. They willingly put themselves under the scrutiny of the public microscope. They get paid for it, too. So they should not hesitate and/or complain when asked by the public to model, perform and carry out ethical behavior. This is why I don't neccesarily believe in the endorsing process. I see a big show being put on by candidates to win a coveted prize. Not to say that some candidates are not sincere in their messages and subsequent actions, but, let's face it, they are after that prize. And if citizens want to believe that because of that process they are getting the best candidate, they are welcome to continue believing that. I believe that it is simply hit or miss. A fifty-fifty chance at best. After the prize is garnered, what happens after that would be anybody's guess. Someone once said that a majority sometimes simply means that "all the fools are on one side." I am more often impressed with the one that takes the road less traveled. In saying that I will get off my soapbox for the moment, divert to another subject and close with this statement: Get off the beaten path and Vote Brandon Lacy for MPS Board. Pamela Taylor (Who has sometimes been a fool, and probably will be sometime again, but who usually knows a good thing when she spots it on that less traveled road, speaking out from Tampa) --- List Manager <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Strib's Rochelle Olson reports that US Atty's office > claims Biernat > voluntarily admitting taking unpaid plumbing work, > and asked if he > should resign; his lawyer said "it is our position > that these are not > Joe Biernat's words." > > http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/2857114.html > > David Brauer > List manager > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
