Friends, First of all I wanted to thank all of you for your supportive thoughts over the loss of our Boxer Babe Raj. We have learned that signage has been installed at the entrance to the Minnehaha Dog Park to warn humans of the dangerous cliff where Raj fell to his death on May 18th (thank you Park Board). Several Park Commissioners have offered their support for installing protective fencing along the cliff area. Signage is fine, but not adequate enough!
We also understand that some individuals fear the dog park will be closed due to the expense of installing such fencing. While we fully appreciate the cost and expense of installing and maintaining such fencing, we ask, at what cost is the City of Minneapolis willing to risk without such protective fencing? Lawsuits over the loss of a human will surely cost a heck of a lot more than a silly 4 foot high fence, or our vet bill to save Raj's life! Heck, why not use the miles of orange protective fencing that the City won't have a use for after they complete renovations to lower Minnehaha Creek? In this day and age of budget cuts and diminished revenues, we argue that a few dollars of prevention are more cost effective than litigation over the loss of human life. So, for those of you who fear that the dog park will be closed, don't blame those like ourselves who are merely interested in the safety of the public (let alone dogs who frequent the park). And as our original post on this subject stated, signage is fine and dandy for literate humans, but never met a dog who could read yet! If we do, we'll keep quiet about this issue! We trust that the Park Board will make the right decision for the safety of those who use Minnehaha Dog Park, 2 and 4 legged. If the fencing idea is nixed we for sure would NEVER take any dog we own down to Minnehaha Dog Park. Our dog would be safer walking along city streets, dodging unruly drivers, than to risk the leap o' death down by the River. In for the long haul and for the memory of our boy Raj.
