Ms. Garwood's post  reveals a basic misunderstanding of the free market
system.
"What the market will bear" exerts downward pressure on prices, not upward.
Free competition encourages providers to make available the best product at
the lowest price. When artificial controls are placed on prices, artificial
prices, both artificially low and artificially high, result (as pointed out
in Jim Graham's post)
