As documented in the Southwest Journal a few years ago--and confirmed by top MAC officials--the North-South runway will NOT result in noise relief for South Minneapolis residents who live under the path of the north parallel runway. As operations increase generally at the airport, South Minneapolis residents under the north parallel runway will actually see and hear an increase in jet traffic. Operation of the new North-South runway, however, will result in the reduction of jet traffic for residents living under the south parallel runway.

The new runway is being done to increase capacity at the airport, and
provide some (there's controversy about exactly how much) noise relief to
South Minneapolis.
