I am neither shocked or surprised by the actions described by our police and
city council after these shootings. It just goes to show that they don't
want to solve the real problems on Broadway, and the rest of the Northside.
I think it's great that you spoke up and put Biernat on the hot seat. I've
e-mailed him several times, and gotten decent responses. But this is the
solution to the problem? Cookouts? Give me a break. I think it's time to
close some of the duplicated departments at city hall and use that money to
help all the citizens, and not just a few. Your story reminds me of
Sayles-Belton telling our community that if someone is playing a loud car
stereo outside our house, that we shouldn't call the police, we should go
out to the car, and ask them to turn it down. Talk about being out of touch.
The next problem I forsee is after Broadway is cleaned up, the crime will
move north to Lowry. In fact it already has. Prostitution is rampant at
night, and loitering is going on all the time. This summer will show how
tough our new mayor is going to be. And will his adminstration raise the
budget of the police? Crime has dropped in the last five years, no doubt
about it. But will other livibality crimes looming, we need to go for the
endzone and send a message to the criminals that choose to ruin Minneapolis.
