I've been mostly reading, not participating over the last several weeks and
have noticed that a few of our threads are getting a little personal and
unnecessarily derisive and sarcastic.

I want to remind new and old members that Minneapolis-Issues was created as
a "civil civic discussion." That doesn't mean people can't disagree -
strongly - but it does mean we need to stick to the issues and avoid the
unnecessary knife-twist or personal shot.

The reason is not that I'm a reborn Emily Post - it's that this emphasis on
issue over invective is essential to keeping many different perspectives at
the table. Personal shot-taking and nastiness is what leads to more
unsubscribes than probably anything else that happens here, according to
former members who tell me why they leave.

Minneapolis-Issues - four years old next month - has succeeded because we've
elevated substance over virtual eye-gouge, unlike many other forums.

If everyone could please respect the civility ethos, I'd appreciate it. I
have and will send out warnings if I have to, but I don't want to have to.

The rules of the forum are at http://www.e-democracy.org/mpls

Thanks,
David Brauer
