Management consultants to present recommendations to Mayor and City Council
to streamline City's development functions
Recommendations reflect more than $1 million in pro-bono time from McKinsey
and input from over 1,200 leaders and citizens
WHAT: City Council Study Session, where Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and
the Minneapolis City Council will be briefed on McKinsey and Company's
report and recommendations from its comprehensive study of Minneapolis'
development priorities and organizational structure
WHEN: 9:30 - noon, Friday, June 14
WHERE: City Council Chambers
Third Floor, City Hall, 350 South 5th Street, Minneapolis
MORE: Mayor Rybak and the Minneapolis City Council are working to create a
strategic and streamlined approach to the City's planning and development
activities that focuses resources and attention on the priorities the
community has said it values most.
Mayor Rybak engaged the pro-bono services of
McKinsey & Company, a leading international management consulting firm, to
assist with this complex organizational reform.
During the resulting study, McKinsey &
Company staff directly interviewed and received written input from more than
1,200 stakeholders, including members of City of Minneapolis boards and
commissions, City staff, elected officials, business and financial leaders,
the philanthropic sector, neighborhood and community leaders and the general
public during the last four months. McKinsey also reviewed more than 125
documents and performed in-depth financial, process and organizational
analyses of development in Minneapolis.
The City Council and Mayor will review and
discuss their recommendations - with input from our residents, neighborhood
groups, staff and key stakeholders in the community - before deciding which
of these recommendations to move forward with, and at what time. A series of
meetings are being planned to present the recommendations and seek input
from Minneapolis' stakeholders, including the general public.
P.S. The recommendations will also be posted on the city's website at 9:30
a.m. Friday morning. I'll post them to the list (if someone else hasn't
already) on Friday as well.
