I admit, I'm a sucker for advertisements. So, when
Laura forwarded the Met Council Page showing concept
drawings of the LRT stations, I eaisly clicked on the link
(which, by the way, is a dead one).
During my tenure as a Student Representative to the
Board of Regents on the University's Facilities Committee,
my big thing was the construction of public facilities that
are different, special and unique. I think the Met Council
and local communities have done exactly that in the design
of these facilities and really want to express my
appreciation for that. I may not like all of the designs
(Cedar-Riverside, for example), butI am very glad that they
are not simply boxes with tracks going in and out of them.
So: Kudos to the Met Council and their work! :-)
I believe quality public architecture is more than
something to do to please the tourists. The experiences
that residents have, and the way they remember Minneapolis
when they've moved on with their life depends on our public
amenities -- of which architecture is a component. I hope
more city and metro agencies become cognizant of this fact
and try to design their generally mundane facilities in an
interesting and memorable manner.

PS-My favorite station is the airport. I love those white
things on the ceiling of the station!
