Re the two posts about the potential problem of people crossing the
revamped intersection at Nicollet and Lake:

When I was in Rochester last week, I noticed that on a semaphore near
the Mayo Clinic they have a different "walk/don't walk" signal.  This
one shows the seconds you have to cross the street, and counts them
down.  Very cool.  The "don't walk" signal starts flashing at a certain
point, but the seconds continue to count down.

A signal like this might be helpful at that intersection -- of course,
only if it is set with enough time for the elderly and/or ambulation
challenged to safely cross.   I thought it was near the Mayo
Clinic/hospital complex for the same reason -- lots of slow people
needing to walk between buildings.
