No doubt all the criticism about the MPRB spending a couple mil for its new
digs on the riverfront is valid, especially in view of cut backs for other
park needs. I could spit out a paragraph or two of criticism myself.

However, as a laborer in the vineyard of upper river redevelopment for a
long time, I am happy to see a public entity take ownership of another
parcel along the upper river corridor and use it for something that will
enhance our community. Most of the publicly owned parcels in the upper
corridor are undeveloped parks, thin ribbons of grass and asphalt, a garbage
transfer station and the Upper Harbor Terminal. The exception is the newly
dedicated North Mississippi Regional Park and Interpretive Center, which
should be a model for all other riverfront development.

Public agencies have missed opportunities to acquire several large and small
parcels along the upper river corridor over the past few years. This current
purchase is one that will not be rolled over to another industrial use.

So I am endorsing the move of the MPRB to our part of town and the
acquisition of one more parcel that will move our communities closer to what
south Minneapolis residents have enjoyed for decades along their riverfront
and the lakes.
