Even though I personally didn't put a whole lot of energy into supporting
the new Fort Snelling Complex because I wouldn't want my kid playing under
that noise and fumes coming out of airplanes but for those who really
wanted this complex they continued to provide compelling information that
made it seem worthwhile. After all, an elected official doesn't always
fully support every thing put before them but does go along with the crowd.
But in regards to funding here is the response from staff for those of you
concerned about the tax money issues.

>The Fort Snelling Complex has no property tax funding behind it - the bonds
>issued are completely supported by golf fees and other enterprise (fee
>based) operations. The NET increase in property taxes was ONLY dedicated to
>capital improvements and expanding recreation programs. We did increase
>property taxes on the City's behalf as well (they took the LGA and we raised
>the taxes so we gained no net dollars in some cases.

Thanks for the inquiry,
Annie Young
citywide Park Commisioner
