Forwarded on behalf of Ed Felien. - David Brauer, list manager Press Statement by Ed Felien, candidate for Hennepin County Commissioner, 4th District
July 16, 2002 I challenge Peter McLaughlin to debate the following: 1. Is it the best allocation of County resources to push hundreds of poor women and children off of welfare and at the same time lobby the State Legislature to give $300 million in welfare to billionaire Carl Pohlad to build a baseball stadium? 2. Is traffic on Lake Street better or worse as a result of the Hiawatha overpass? 3. Is the Hennepin County downtown garbage incinerator safe? 4. Are Hennepin County social services accessible to poor people in South Minneapolis, or is the Lake Street office just as remote as the offices downtown? 5. Is it good government policy to accept more than a $100 campaign contribution from people who do business with the County? 6. For most of us the last two years have been a recession. Things have been rough. Is that the time to raise the budget for your personal offices by 19.26% or the budget for the County Administrator by 77.78%? 7. Why was there a cost overrun almost right away of $500,000 on the Hiawatha LRT project? The people of South Minneapolis deserve answers to these questions. Ed Felien has lived in South Minneapolis all his life. He was born in Fairview Hospital, went to Jon Ericsson Elementary, Folwell Junior High and Roosevelt High School. He got his Eagle Scout award from St. Helenas Troop 38. He earned his B. A., M. A. and Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota. He has taught at the University, operated Modern Times Caf, and served on the Minneapolis City Council. For the past 11 years he has published and edited Southside Pride, now three monthly community newspapers serving South Minneapolis, and for the last 5 years he has published Pulse of the Twin Cities, a locally grown weekly alternative newspaper. _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
