John Rocker:
My only experience with Caf Bicko is driving by it, so I can't comment
on whether or not this particular restaurant should or shouldn't be
granted a new liquor license, but Kris Musser's post exemplifies some
NIMBYism that I don't want to go unchecked.

Kris Musser:
NIMBYism? Maybe I'm confused about this term and the NIMBYism isn't just
for matters of discrimination and affordable housing anymore. Or did I
just make it too easy listing my address in my post and my backyard
literally is this business ha! ha? Assumptions have to be made to assert
NIMBYism - no ha ha!. Posting my ignorance on what to most on this List is
simple stuff ...and of course, in the scheme of the city, minor issues and
then to plop my neighborhood at the end. Tempting to dismiss or assume my
concerns.

I really take your suggestions to heart despite feeling upset at what i
feel is a characterization of my post that might slow down a good
discussion on a real issue (to me anyway). My biggest issue remains
getting up to speed fast on a lot of things so that I dont just blindly say
no or worse yet say nothing. I received a letter in the mail asking for
my comment at a Public Hearing. I understand that my humble comments will
only be taken under advisory and will in no way decide this matter, but I
am still taking it seriously. I care about the businesses where I live and
I care about my neighbors and here is my first real opportunity that i have
taken since moving here to try to have an informed comment. Educate myself
enough to participate with some responsibility.

I talked with the business owner about his plans, talked with licensing,
inspections, councils office, gathered neighbors varied thoughts, passed
the word about the meeting, read many off list posts with countless
suggestions from experienced individuals and researched. I am now
realizing I need more detailed information on a few things. Zoning:
understand the requirements and the change that precipitated the recent
opportunity to even apply for this type of license. Differences in the On
Sale Liquor, Class C-1 with Sunday Sales with amplified music as compared
to current wine and beer (which they currently have and everyone else
mostly has in the vacinity - also, they currently have music i can hear
that is not amplified.) All the detailed information I can get. It would
be my hope that we could come up with some kind of a win - win here for the
neighborhood and a business that is important to the neighborhood. Who
knows? NIMBYism or not, maybe I'll get involved in more things as I become
more educated.
