I, for one, would love to see City Pages make a bold move for an alt weekly and actually cover the news. As a former CP editor (1986-89), I understand the alt weekly formula of "edgy" cultural coverage and "hard-hitting" reporting, but the fact is, even the Strib does "edgy" cultural coverage these days. What the Strib could do more of--and where CP could find an "edge"--would be better City Hall coverage, great neighborhood stories, top-flight political coverage, and ground-level profiles that help us all understand the Twin Cities better. Let's hope Mark Bartel makes the right choice with the new editor. Craig Cox Hiawatha Home of The Minneapolis Observer, a not-alt weekly
