At the last Monthly Meeting, Attorney General Candidate Tom Kelly screened with Log Cabin Republicans of Minnesota for endorsement. Kelly believes that sexual conduct between consenting adults in the privacy of the home is beyond the bounds of the appropriate concerns of government. He stated: "I will not consider sexual orientation in hiring, firing or promotion in the Attorney General's office. This would not change even if the law permitted consideration of sexual orientation." He also stated should he get elected as Attorney General his "door would be open" to Log Cabin Republicans. He expressed interest in using LCR as a resource for more information about Gay and Lesbian issues in the public policy realm and is interested in working with Log Cabin Republicans to reach out to GLBT voters. Log Cabin Republicans of Minnesota disagrees with Kelly on the issue of civil unions. LCR membership believes that taxpayer funded benefits should not discriminate against Gay and Lesbian employees as they do currently. "Tom Kelly is interested in reaching out to Gay and Lesbian voters" said Eva Young, President of Log Cabin Republicans. "Log Cabin Republicans of Minnesota is in agreement with Kelly on his major issues in the campaign: health care, where costs have been rising by 10% or more annually since Hatch became Attorney General, on the economy, where Hatch's campaign to keep his name in the headlines at the expense of business has cost the state jobs, and on legal reform, where Hatch has been AWOL. We disagree with Kelly's position on how to defend marriage (which happens to be identical to the position taken by DFL Senator Paul Wellstone.) We would also like to challenge Mike Hatch to clarify his current position on Domestic Partner Benefits and on Gay Marriage. When Hatch ran against John Marty in the DFL Primary in 1994, he campaigned against Marty's support of Domestic Parner benefits in a cynical attempt to appeal to bigots. This tactic backfired on Hatch and Marty ended up winning the primary and losing the general election to the Pro-Gay and Inclusive Republican, Arne Carlson." Log Cabin Republicans of Minnesota is a grass roots inclusive Republican organization. Log Cabin Republicans of Minnesota is affiliated with Log Cabin Republicans, the nation's largest gay and lesbian Republican organization, with state and local chapters nationwide, a full-time Washington office and a federal political action committee. ### Eva Eva Young Near North Minneapolis _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
