I agree Wizard. We have lived in our house 31 years. We are on Stevens between
35th and 36th. I have talked till I'm blue in the face about this ramp mess over the
years. This is a good plan that needs a little tweek or two. The situation as is can
not
contiue for much longer as traffic is far too much for 35th & 36th to handle anymore.
If two ramps take a portion of what comes to 35 & 36, it will not be as bad. Lake St.
business will be better off, and we can have some say in what gets done. I am afraid
that if this gets voted down, the project will come back in the not too distant future
with NO mitigation monies and it will be done as MnDOT sees fit. I want to have some
say in the process. Never before has this much money been put into mitigation.
Yes, my ceilings are always cracked from the truck traffic rumble by my house. The
jake brakeing is horrid. (The city won't do anything about that as it really isn't a
problem that affects many people. The county says it's a city problem, the state says
it shouldn't be happening but the city needs to deal with it, so the jake brakers let
it rip) I like living by the freeway. We have met some very nice people over the
years.
My husband has helped many people with car trouble. We have gotten smelt, venison,
jam, jelly and many, many thank you cards. Yes, we have been conned and given people a
few bucks for gas that probably didn't go into the right tank. If the ramps move I
would miss some of this. Most important in this whole thing is what is the best thing
to do for South Mpls. I have empathy for the folks at 38th and Lake St. as I now
live with what they will be getting. I want them to get something better than what
got stuck to us. Last summer during the inversion when health warnings were issued, I
put
my carbine monoxide detector in my front porch window. It went off and the numbers
were up as high as 191 one afternoon.
Think I'm going to keep my mouth shut about what needs to happen with spreading
out some of this traffic? Not in this life time! We can get this done the easy way
or the hard way by dragging it to court. Either way it will be done. We can have
some say in what happens or not. We won't get everything we want, no one ever does.
I don't have a wall in front of my house and don't want one. Do I hear noise in my
front yard? Sure, but I spend my time in the back yard where it is quiet. One other
thing I will miss if the ramps move. We won't have the street in front of our house
cleared curb to curb before a snow emergency is declared. That in itself is pure
gold!! The best benefit of living by the ramps!
