Mike was the founder and patriarch of Curran's Restaurant, a 50-year-plus icon in King Field (and a stone's throw away from my house). Mike was involved in neighborhood stuff and he and his son Dennis are among the most stand-up business owners in our area.
For many people, Curran's is a tradition - a drive-in joint that became a signature family restaurant. Long before I moved here, people from the area would ask me to meet them there. It's the old-timey counterpoint to all the coffee shops that have sprung up in the area, and it's sure nice to have both. The Strib did a nice obit this morning.
