Jim Graham raised this issue-- Problem: RT Rybak's budget calls for cutting the Police budget by a reported $2,000,000 this year.-- And the mayor responded last night. I had to give the matter of police funding shorter shrift than I would have preferred in writing in Saturday's paper about the mayor's budget proposal. With her permission, I have attached to this e-mail a summary by Budget Director Tammy Omdal that provides more detail. City officials say the "2003 current service level" is the 2002 budget adjusted for cost increases such as labor contracts or other known financial factors. I hope that this summary provides more clarity for members of the list.
