In light of the latest shooting, in light of calls for
people to resign, in light of increasing rhetoric, in light
of emotions and attitudes, in the light of making this
right, we need strong leadership now. I think RT is up to
the task, but we need leadership now from ALL Council
Members and from community leaders (and that includes ALL
community leaders, whether black, white, Asian, Somali,
police, peaceniks, you name it).

Not political rhetoric, not calls for resignations, not talk
of retribution, not clever language that has race tied into
it, not a narrow constiuency-based approach, but true
leadership, a focus that can bring disparate people
together, can build trust between communities that are at
odds, can promise us and deliver a road for change.

Be hard with your denouncing of all violence, be
uncompromising with a pursuit of truth and reconciliation,
be harsh with those who view this as a game and politics--
who use death and injury as a means to score political
points-- hell, look at yourself and your community (however
you define it or see it) and see how you can change--truly
change-- so that we don't continue this cycle. If you are
unwilling to change, to see how you and your community is
responsible (and I include me in that 'you') then you are
part of the problem.

Step up, leaders, what say you other than the same ol'?
