Stephen,
I don't know you, and do not know what color you are, but I wanted you to
know that you just made this African American woman quite peeved.
This activist doesn't just come out for minority causes, this one will rise
to the occasion of anyone killed unnecessarily by the police. I am not
speaking one way or the other on this matter you are speaking of because I
just opened my email and I am reacting simply to your statements at present.
Yes, there are a lot of people sitting on stoops drinking beer, it is their
right to do whatever they please (that's lawful) on their stoop. Just
because they are sitting out there does not mean they are non-caring
citizens. And yes, folks HAVE told kids to get off the streets, and have
earnestly been trying to help them do just that. Just don't start thinking
that it is the job of everyone on stoops to do so. Nor is hiring all same
race individuals going to solve the problem. I don't see all the white cops
coming into the 'hood tracking and taking out all the white folks that come
through from other areas, buying or selling drugs, dumping their trash and
what not out of windows, and committing other such not so nice acts. So
what I am saying is simply GET REAL! You will have to work alongside other
people to find a viable solution.
Again, I don't know you, but I would like to ask if you have been over
there, talking to the people about the beer cans, and have you been trying
to get the youth off the streets? Or are you just sitting on your own stoop
being disgusted? How much of an activist are you in this area? If the
activists that you see apparently are out standing up for unjustifiable
individuals, put yourself on the line.
If you are already doing so, more power to you.

(Formerly of Minneapolis, living in Clearwater Beach, but by day hard at
work in Tampa, FL activating people of all colors, sitting on stoops and
corners and schoolyards.)
Once again the community activists come out when a black person is shot by
the police. But why aren't they over here off of Lowry?
Why aren't they telling the black kids to get off the street corners and
clean up the neighborhood they live in? I see more people sitting on the
stoop of their house with beer cans and bottles in the front yard. What's up
with that? I just would like to see these activists facing up to the real
problems on a day to day basis her on the northside.
I've told my father that the only solution to this is to hire a
black
police chief, and hire all black cops to run the areas that blacks are
concentrated in. What will be the complaint then? This is another case of
the police saying one thing, and the residents saying another, well I'm
going with the police on this one, just like last summer on Girard.
